Can you see it?

What do you see in the canopy of the monte alto here at the site of Balamku in southern Campeche?

My Yucatecan compadre, who sometimes hunts, saw it instantly. Believe it or not, this is the best of the 5 photos I took.

Maybe this video will help.

That's right, monkeys!

There are only three monkey species endemic to the area, capuchins, howlers, and spider monkeys. This is too big for a capuchin and too small and gracile for a howler. The consensus is that it must be a spider monkey. You don't see many monkeys in Yucatan because of habitat loss, but they are more common down south where the forest is higher.
